Buy filing cabinets here!

The filing cabinets have the same properties and are tested in the same way as document cabinets . The difference is that a filing cabinet is adapted for hanging folders with pull-out drawers instead of a door. Vertical cabinets are often used for fire protection and storage of journals, contracts, and agreements. A filing cabinet provides the best capacity utilization if a hanging file system for A4 or folio folders is used and can also be equipped with a data media insert.

The filing cabinets are equipped with two or more drawers that run on ball-bearing steel expansions. The cabinets are equipped with central locks and snap locks on each drawer to provide simplified access to individual drawers.

The cabinets are fire-rated after undergoing fire tests and then receive a certificate describing how long the cabinet protects the contents during a severe fire.

The common feature of the different test standards is that the test is conducted in an oven heated to about 1000 °C. This is an extreme temperature that has the effect of melting the color of the cabinet, as well as aluminum handles and other details on the cabinet. In a typical fire, this temperature is rarely or never reached, but it serves as a standard during testing.

The test involves using sensors to measure the internal temperature in the cabinet during a predetermined time interval, usually 60 minutes or 120 minutes, but also 90-minute tests. During the time intervals, document cabinets or vertical cabinets must not have an internal temperature that exceeds 175 °C, which is the limit of what paper can withstand before becoming unreadable. When a document cabinet is equipped with a data media insert to protect data media, the internal temperature during the test must not exceed 50 °C, as this is the maximum temperature for data media.

In some tests, there is also a drop test, i.e., the cabinet is dropped from a height of 9 meters and then heated again with the requirement that it keeps the internal temperature increase away. This simulates a fall from the second floor of a collapsing building.

Both series BF and series PRO are tested according to the UL standard, Underwriters Laboratories standard, which is an American fire test that can include drop and shock tests if requested, and then a production control is also carried out. The cabinets are certified in 1H or 2H, which stands for one or two hours of testing. Tests are conducted for both paper and data media. UL-authorized institutes conduct the tests, and UL issues the certificates.

The filing cabinets do not have certified burglary protection but, like document cabinets, they do offer some unauthorized access protection. For storing items requiring burglary protection, there are special security cabinets. Security cabinets are used to protect contents against burglary and theft. There are many areas of use and a large selection of interiors available. Security cabinets can be equipped with key fittings for secure storage of keys, or they can be equipped with a data media insert for storage and fire protection of data media, CDs, mobile phones, MP3 players, and AV equipment.

Security cabinets have been tested and classified according to SS 3492. The burglary tests are conducted by certified institutes in accordance with applicable test standards. The currently applicable test standards are SS 3492 and SS 3493, which clarify the tools the testing institute can use for testing, the same for both standards. The goal for the testing institute is to create a 10 x 10 cm hole as quickly as possible. If this cannot be done within a specified time, the cabinet passes the test, but the base frame of the security cabinet must be made of 4 mm steel plate and both have drilling and impact protection for the locking system. The locks must also be tested and approved. The safe must also have a minimum fire rating of 60P according to the NT Fire 017 fire class to receive the SS 3493 classification.
